Grieving With a Spouse

Understanding each other's grief

3 answers · from the Hello Angel grief library

Is it normal for my partner to grieve differently than I do?

Yes, partners rarely grieve in the same way or at the same pace. These differences do not mean differences in love, only differences in expression and coping.

Why does it feel like my partner and I are grieving so differently?

One partner may express grief outwardly while the other processes it inwardly, which can create the false sense of distance even when both are deeply affected.

Does different grieving mean we don't understand or care about each other?

No. Differences in grief expression are common and do not reflect a lack of care. Both partners can be deeply impacted while showing it in very different ways.
