How do we handle holidays and birthdays?
Significant dates are often the most difficult. Provide extra support during these times and consider incorporating cultural traditions or new mourning rituals to give the child a structured way to express their feelings.
What can we do in our day-to-day routine to help?
- Nature: Spend time outdoors; walking in a forest or star-gazing can be very calming.
- Physical Health: Ensure they are getting enough sleep, healthy food, and movement, as grief is physically taxing.
- Comfort Plans: Help the child create a "comfort plan" for moments when they feel scared or overwhelmed, including simple things like a hug or a specific calming activity.
