Trauma responses in grief

3 answers · from the Hello Angel grief library

Why do I feel like I'm reliving what happened sometimes?

Grief can include intrusive memories or moments that feel like they are happening again. This is your brain trying to process something overwhelming.

Why does my body react even when I'm not thinking about it?

Trauma and grief can live in the body as well as the mind. Your nervous system may react automatically to reminders or stress.

Why do I avoid reminders even when I want to remember them?

Avoidance is a natural protective response when something feels emotionally overwhelming. It does not mean you are forgetting or moving on.
