Understanding how grief can feel

4 answers · from the Hello Angel grief library

Why do I feel okay one moment and overwhelmed the next?

Grief often comes in waves, so your emotions can shift quickly without warning. These changes are normal and do not mean you are healing wrong.

Why does my brain feel foggy or like I can't focus?

Grief affects your ability to concentrate, remember things, and think clearly. Your mind is using a lot of energy to process something very painful.

Why am I so tired all the time?

Grief takes a lot of emotional and physical energy, even when nothing "active" is happening. Your body is working hard behind the scenes to adjust to the loss.

Why do I feel different or like I don't know who I am anymore?

Loss can shift your identity and how you see yourself in the world. It's normal to feel unsure about who you are becoming after someone important is gone.
